Nuremberg Laws in Danzig
The Nuremberg Laws passed by the Nazis in the fall of 1935 are now in force in Danzig and applies to Jews regardless of nationality. The Nazi organ Vorposten, commenting on the action, ironically hopes that the Poles will be grateful to the Danzig government for its efforts to secure "racial purity" for the Free City's inhabitants.
Warsaw, however, does not see the situation in that light. It is understood that the Poles are preparing to protest this new discrimination.
The anti-Semitic drive, which began with the German excesses, continues unabated. Several Jewish-owned stores, which had reopened, closed again after the police had indicated that their reopening was a "provocation".
More than 100 Jews have been arrested during the last three days. Those who seemingly were Polish citizens were sent across the frontier. Many of them were arrested on the Polish side as deserters from the Army.
Danzig's great synagogue, damaged in the recent rioting, now is being torn down to enable the extension of the police station.
The adoption of the Nuremberg Laws is a violation of the Free City's constitution guaranteed by the League of Nations, but Commissioner Carl J. Burckhardt de Reynold is not expected to take any action. in fact, he is understood to be disillusioned and wishes to resign. The Nazis, naturally, would welcome the event.
One month ago there were widespread pogroms against Jews throughout the city-state.

Anti-Jewish Laws in Italy
Despite Fascist laws in Italy, there has not been a systemic Anti-Semitic rhetoric in Mussolini's government. This past autumn, Italy has made several changes to its Jewish policies. These laws ban miscegenation between Jews and "Aryans," and placed Jews, defined by racial criteria much as in the Nazi legislation, under further restrictions. Alien Jews have also been expelled from the nation and teachers and students pulled from schools.

Sinti & Roma elements in Germany & Austria
The German Government took many rights from the Gypsies with "Protection of Blood and Honour" law passed in 1935. This law strips many non-Aryan groups in Germany and, since Anschluss earlier this year, Austria, of civic rights.
Gypsies have historically been nomadic groups all over Europe. The areas of largest populations are in Central and Eastern Europe. Some have countered that the Gypsies are also Aryan, the supposed race of German people.
Dr. Hans F. K. Günther of the University of Berlin has written on the subject in his 1927 book The Racial Elements of European History. Within its pages he discusses Gypsy Aryan origins that corruptions that have occurred dur to breeding with lower classes. All of this is of course the writings of German racialism and has not been wholly substantiated by other learned men.
Other authorities have noted the asocialism and community hygiene problems that the Gypsies present to the Nazi Government.
Many Gypsies have historically been distrusted due to their refusal to live sedentary lifestyles. Gypsies live a nomadic pattern using their skills in crafts and performance to earn money for food. Gypsies are often referred to as criminals, deceivers and thieves.
It is unclear where the Gypsies are going in this relocation.

Nuremberg Laws in effect in Austria
Of particular interest in Austria, any books written by Jews are going to be removed, likely destroyed. In addition, any anti-Nazi literature is meeting the same fate.

Plebiscite in Austria
4% of the population are Gypsies and Jews. They were recently disenfranchised. When Austria united with Germany, many of the Nuremberg laws that were passed in 1935 have gone into affect in Austria.

Jews allowed to fly German Flag
The prohibition still holds but there is nothing to stop them from flying the German flag. They are glad to do so rather than draw attention to their shops and homes by leaving them bare in the streets otherwise plenteously adorned with bunting. One department store in the west end carried whole rows of the Olympic banners. Some others have added symposiums of flags of the Olympic nations all except the swastika - without objection.
The practice has the advantage, from the German viewpoint, of saving foreign guests the of puzzling over empty flagpoles until they divine the real reason and thereby reminded of the German official race prejudice.
